With impressive versatility, actor and singer Isabeau Proulx Lemire has traversed an ever-broadening spectrum of musical styles and dramatic characterizations. Beginning his artistic career as an actor, he has worked with some of Quebec’s most renowned companies and events, including Cirque Éos, the Opéra de Québec, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, Les Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France, and the Quebec City Carnival.
Combining his expressive musicianship with a rare gift for acting, Isabeau Proulx Lemire showcases his unparalleled artistry as an actor-singer in operettas (Opéra Bouffe du Québec, Jeunesses Musicales of Canada), baroque operas (Atelier d'Opéra de l'Université de Montréal, Opéra-Comique de Paris, Toronto Masque Theatre, Le Nouvel Opera), contemporary operas (Chants libres), musicals (Les Misérables presented at Le Capitole in Quebec City and Les Francofolies in Montreal), and popular music (Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Walt Disney World and at the Festival de Théâtre des Amériques). His singing career has also taken him to South America and Europe.
His theatrical skills have often been acclaimed in the French and English Canadian press. His performance in Strauss’s Die Fliedermaus at the Atelier d’Opéra de l’Université de Montréal prompted La Presse to write that he “stole the show with [his] acrobatic clowning as the drunk jailor,” and was later described as “hilarious” by Gilbert Rozon, founder and director of the Just for Laughs Festival. La Presse raved again about his short appearance in Peter Brook’s Carmen at the Canadian Vocal Arts Institute, calling it “dazzling.” More recently, the Toronto Star reviewed his latest performance in the Toronto Masque Theatre’s Molière Celebration: “...the talented […] Isabeau Proulx-Lemire, [was] fabulously comic in three roles... [He] strut[s] his theatrical stuff with panache.”
